Stuart's SVHS Senior Portrait SHEVIN, STUART NORRIS Age 63, died Wednesday, April 18, 2012, following a brave battle with lung cancer. His final years with illness did not detract from his love of life, love for family and love for his friends and colleagues. Stuart would want us to celebrate his life, and not mourn his death. Those who knew him, knew him as a devoted friend and community leader; as a wonderful spouse to his beloved wife Debbie; as a loving father to his son Jacob and daughter Rachael; and, as a devoted son-in-law to Polly and Lee, son to Alva and Harold and brother to Jann, Maury, Alan and Patti. But, Stuart was more than a good family man. He took care of so many people and helped so many in countless ways big and small. He touched a lot of lives. If the true measure of a man's life is the good deeds that he performed for others, Stuart measured up very well. He was, in deed, his father's son. Stuart served his family business for an entire lifetime. He was active in the world of retail furnishings in Alabama, the Southeast and the United States. He planned well for his son's succession at the family's 100 year old business--Standard Furniture Company. He was proud of his daughter's career in bio-medical research. Stuart epitomized the Prophet Micah's instruction for living a good life: All that the Lord requires of us is that we love mercy, do justice and walk humbly with our God. We would all do well to follow Stuart's exemplary life. The family requests that those who may wish to honor Stuart, do so by making a contribution in his memory to Hadassah, Temple Beth-El and the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center. The funeral will take place at Temple Beth-El, Birmingham, AL, April 20, 2012, at 12:00 noon.
