Missy Smith Schmitt, Passed on January 29, 2010Anne Parrish Smith Schmitt (Missy), 61, of Pensacola died peacefully at home on January 29, 2010.  She was born and grew up in Birmingham, AL, graduating from Shades Valley High School in 1966. She attended Christian College, Columbia, MO and the University of Alabama where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi and where she developed a lifelong love for the Crimson Tide. She graduated with a B.S. in elementary education in 1970. Thereafter, she taught elementary school before moving to Pensacola with her husband, Randy, in 1982. In Pensacola, she worked in advertising at Clear Channel Radio and Central Credit Union of Florida. She was active in First Presbyterian Church serving as an Elder and President of the Presbyterian Women. She enjoyed several Mardi Gras dance groups. Her pride and joy was the University of Alabama, particularly its football team, and she was a longtime member and past President of the Pensacola Chapter, University of Alabama Alumni Association. Roll Tide! Missy was a loving and loved daughter, wife, mother, mother-in-law, sister, aunt and friend. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Davenport Smith and Margaret Anne Smith of Birmingham and Gulf Shores, AL, and her father-in-law, John Schmitt of Louisiana, MO.
Missy is survived by her husband of 39 years, J. Randall Schmitt; her daughter, Elizabeth Schmitt Boyette and husband, Aaron Boyette, of Tallahassee, FL; her sister, Susan Smith Clark and husband, Pete Clark, of Pace, FL; her mother-in-law, Jean Schmitt of Columbia, MO; her sister-in-law, Janet Schmitt Rogers and husband, Jim Rogers, of Columbia, MO; and her nieces and nephew, Meg Clark of Tuscaloosa, AL; Addie Clark of Pace, FL; and Brian Rogers of Columbia, MO.
A Graveside Service will take place at 12 noon, Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at Greenwood Cemetery, Montgomery, AL. A Memorial Service will be held at 11 am, Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at First Presbyterian Church, Pensacola, FL, with the Reverend Dr. Randy Jackson officiating. A reception will follow at the Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ronald McDonald House Charities or The American Lung Association or to a charity of your choice.  HARPER-MORRIS MEMORIAL CHAPEL is in charge of arrangements.
